When it comes to all things sparkly, what kind of a girl are you?
Some girls love a bit (read a lot) of glitter. They are like magpies, swooping on anything that shimmers from make-up to jewellery and sequin adorned clothing.
Others among us are a little glitter-shy, a bit scared, worried we’ll end up looking like a Christmas tree (or a 6 year old girl).
This year let’s all embrace the sparkle.
As this is my last blog post of 2014, I’m rolling out the glitter carpet to bring you a round-up of some easy ways to bring sparkle into your wardrobe in a way that is entirely comfortable for everyone.
The clothes you wear really can affect how you feel, so if you want to feel sparkly at your Christmas party or on the big day itself (doesn’t everyone?), join me in committing to wearing a least a bit of sparkle on the big day.
3 Easy ways to sparkly style
If you are new to sparkle or worry about it being “too much”, here are 3 ways to do it in a subtle way.
1. A sparkly thread.
I love sparkly knits. This is a very safe way to bring sparkle into your outfit. This Damsel in a Dress shrug works brilliantly over a simple dress or a sleek trouser and top combo. Wear it with black, silver, grey or white/cream.
Damsel in a Dress, Obsession Shrug, £55.20.
2. An embellished neckline.
This dress is a show-stopper, but it’s all in the neckline. A little sparkle goes a long way on a black dress. Stick to black shoes and clutch or bling it up a bit more with gold heels and accessories.

3. Glitzy Accessories
Glitzy footwear isn’t restricted to sandals. I love an ankle boot, its a tougher look than a pretty shoe. This pair has a concealed platform for easier walking.
A glizty clutch is perfect for this time of year, especially for those who shy away from shiny stuff. Your entire outfit can be neutral, elegant and simple with a bag like this.
And ditto to earrings. If you’ve never tried statement earrings before, now is the time to try. These look as though they weigh a ton but Stella&Dot are very clever in their design. They are incredibly easy to wear.
Try something new, I dare you!
Dune, Roxie-Gold, £115. Russell & Bromley, Minnie Envelope Clutch, £135. Stella & Dot, Casablanca Chandeliers, £50.
Whichever way you choose to bring some sparkle to your outfit this Christmas, I hope that trying something new makes you feel fabulous. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and stick to the same old formula but these three options are easy, understated and elegant.
If you are already quite a sparkly person, why not up the ante? I was thrilled to see a good friend of mine (who is usually very safe in her clothing choices), wear the most amazing sequin dress for her birthday party. It was wonderful to see her literally glowing – she looked and felt a million dollars. If she can do it, anyone can. Trust me.
This one is from Phase 8, reduced to £95 (from £150).
Although this is my last blog for the year, I have a special guest blogger writing something for you just in time for the big day. You will love this if you dread having your photo taken.
